Mary Zak- I grew up surrounded by more vegetable and flower gardens than grass. And we all knew about weeding, like it or not! Thanks Mom! Time in the garden was a given.
Being a visual art teacher for 30 years, gardening for me has always been a creative outlet: painting with plants. Everyplace I lived at ended up with a garden. My excuse was that it was cheaper than therapy!
We decided to get married in England in 2002 and then the gardening madness really took hold. We came home and transplanted some aspects of those great gardens that we poured into our own backyard. Every year our anniversary consists of finding a new "castle and garden" destination.
For me, a garden should be a magical place where your soul can play and find sanctuary. I hope that my guests walk away with some of that alchemy.
